After Tooth Extractions
Proper care after an extraction helps reduce discomfort and supports healing.
Bleeding
Some bleeding is normal. Gently bite on clean gauze for about 30 minutes. If it continues, replace the gauze and apply light pressure.
Managing Discomfort
Mild to moderate discomfort is expected. Take any recommended or prescribed medication as directed. Avoid aspirin, as it can increase bleeding.
Swelling
Apply a cold compress to the outside of your cheek for 15 to 20 minutes at a time during the first 24 hours.
Diet
Stick to soft, cool foods the first day. Avoid hot, spicy, or crunchy foods. Gradually return to your normal diet as you heal.
Oral Hygiene
Continue brushing and flossing, but avoid the extraction area for the first 24 hours. After that, gently rinse with warm saltwater throughout the day.
Activity
Rest for the remainder of the day and avoid strenuous activity for at least 24 hours.
Smoking and Alcohol
Avoid both for at least 48 hours to prevent complications and support healing.
Medications
Take all prescribed medications, including antibiotics, as directed.
